A dental implant is another great option to replace missing teeth. The implant replaces the root of a tooth and is placed directly in the bone. After sufficient healing time, the implant fuses with the bone. This slows or stops the bone loss that occurs when the root of a natural tooth is missing. A crown, denture, or other appliance may then be attached to the implant. This permanent solution has the advantages over bridge work in that it does not stress the surrounding teeth for support, and, should the tooth wear out, another can simply be replaced on the implant.
